Strathaven Memory Club

Living with dementia or caring for someone who does can be a very isolating experience so Strathaven Trinity Church decided to hold a dementia awareness afternoon on Wednesday 6 March to explore the needs of local people living with dementia.

The event attracted nearly 30 people, all of whom expressed a genuine interest in a Strathaven-based Memory Club. There was a visiting speaker from Alzheimers Scotland who spoke about the resources available, held a question and answer session and brought leaflets which could be taken away.

Those who attended the event enjoyed relaxed conversation, café style, in the church hall, with refreshments provided by members of the church. One of the highlights of the afternoon was the musical entertainment provided by students from nearby Strathaven Academy.

The church hopes to build on this early success by forming the Strathaven Memory Club, meeting on the fourth Wednesday in every month at Trinity Church from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 24th in the Lethame Road Church Hall.
